The Unite union will ballot BA members on fresh strike action next week. The vote will end on Friday January 21, raising the possibility of more flight disruption early next year.

In a statement Unite said it had given BA seven days notice of its intention to ballot members, over what it says are five outstanding issues (see below for full details) including the restoration of staff travel concessions and the introduction of mixed fleet on different terms and conditions.

Voting papers are being sent out to more than 10,000 BA cabin crew, as, in the words of the Unite union, ?the dispute between the parties deepens?.

Members have until January 21 to vote in the latest ballot, which Unite says surrounds five issues which ?would cost BA not a single penny to resolve?.

BA cabin crew members of the Unite union have voted in favour of fresh industrial action, raising the possibility of strikes over the half term and Easter holidays.

Unite balloted 10,220 members, with 75 per cent turning out to vote, and of these 78.5 per cent voted yes to the question ?Are you prepared to take part in strike action??.

Unite said that members had voted in support of industrial action ?by a huge margin?...

{By my calcs, 78.5% of 75% of 10,220 = 6,017 or 58.87% of total Unite union membership - I wouldn't call that "a huge margin" }

Unite will again ballot its BA members on industrial action next week, following issues with the previous ballot highlighted by the Electoral Reform Services.

A majority of members (78.5 per cent of those taking part) had voted in favour of industrial action in the last ballot held in January, but Unite was forced to re-ballot after what it called a ?legal blitz? by British Airways highlighted flaws in the process.

The union will now ballot members for the fourth time in two years, with voting taking place between Tuesday March 1 and Monday March 28.
