If you have dribs and drabs of hotel points spread across multiple programs, it might behoove you to transfer them into an airline program. While the conversion rates are typically less than generous, consolidating those small lots of unusable hotel points into miles that can be redeemed for free flights may be the best option. Transfer bonuses such as this one from United make such conversions that much more rewarding.
Through November 30, members of United’s MileagePlus program will earn up to 15,000 bonus miles when transferring points from participating hotel programs to their MileagePlus accounts, as follows:
The bonus will be based on the total number of miles earned from one or more hotel transfers.
MileagePlus members may transfer points from the following hotel programs: Carlson, Choice, Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental, Marriott, Starwood, Wyndham. Conversion rates vary.
Registration is required.
Deal or No Deal
The bonuses amount to an extra 20 to 30 percent.
That’s not enough to make hotel-to-airline conversions a great value.
But, again, if you have odd lots of hotel points that will probably never add up to a meaningful reward, the bonus makes transfers a sweeter deal.
