Alaska and Delta have been engaged in an escalating battle for travelers flying to and from Alaska’s hometown Seattle hub, with both airlines now offering bonus award miles and elite-qualifying miles for a number of popular Seattle flights.
Apparently miffed at Delta’s incursion onto its home turf, Alaska is reciprocating by taking the fight to one of Delta’s key hubs: Salt Lake City.
This summer, Alaska will launch new service between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, and San Jose. Existing service between Salt Lake City and Seattle will be increased from two flights a day to three. For maximum impact, bonus miles will be on offer on all the Salt Lake City routes.
Between June 9, 2014, and August 1, 2014, Mileage Plan members can earn double award miles and double elite-qualifying miles on the following Alaska-operated flights:
Registration is required, and must be completed by June 15, 2014.
Deal or No Deal
If travelers be the beneficiaries of this Alaska-Delta feud, let them battle on!
The double elite-qualifying miles make this offer especially valuable.
So far, there’s been no response from Delta. But given recent events, it’s a safe bet there will be.
