Starwood’s upcoming promotion isn’t the most lucrative of the current hotel bonus offers, but it’s still a good one in some respects.
Between January 15 and April 15, 2013, Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn up to 18,000 bonus Starpoints for stays at any Sheraton, Four Points, St. Regis, Luxury Collection, Le Meridien, W, Westin, aloft, and element hotels.
Members will earn 2,000 bonus Starpoints for every four eligible nights, up to 8,000 bonus points for 16 nights, plus an additional 10,000 bonus points when they have stayed 20 nights.
Registration is required, by February 28, but won’t be possible until “early January.” No problem: Starwood will text you when the registration page goes live.
Deal or No Deal
Earning 18,000 bonus points after 20 nights amounts to a bonus of 900 points per night. That’s pretty tepid. And the 500 points per night for those who don’t reach the 20-night threshold is a real yawner.
Nevertheless, Starwood has done some things right.
First, they’ve given travelers one month’s advance notice of the promotion. Too many recent hotel promotions have been announced within just days of their start dates. That’s bad customer service, and bad marketing. Starwood did well to get the word out early and should make it standard practice to do so. Allowing program members to request a ping when registration begins is a win-win as well.
Second, they’ve included all Starwood properties in the promotion, a refreshing change from the current trend of excluding significant numbers of hotels from network-wide bonus offers.
Although this is not a promotion that can be recommended, it’s still a welcome one.
