Starwood’s is among the first of the fall and winter hotel promotions to be announced.
Between September 1 and December 15, Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn double points for stays at participating hotels, plus 2,500 bonus points after every five nights, up to 10,000 bonus points after 20 nights.
There’s a long list of non-participating properties, including around 70 in the U.S.
Registration is required, and must be completed by October 31. The registration page isn’t live yet, but program members can have a text message sent to their phones when it comes online.
Deal or No Deal
Double points is a modest incentive at best.
For those staying five or more nights, however, the extra bonus makes this promotion a worthy one.
SPG members normally earn two points per $1. So a $150 stay is worth 300 points, or 600 points with the double-points bonus. Five nights at $150 would normally net 1,500 points, or 3,000 points with the double points. Adding in the extra 2,500 bonus points brings the total to 5,500, or almost quadruple the normal earnings.
To be sure, five nights is a high hurdle for most leisure travelers, especially since the promotion period falls outside the traditional summer vacation window. But the offer will be in effect for 3.5 months, so there’s more time to qualify than is typically the case.
Be sure to check the list of non-participating hotels before making any travel plans based on this promotion.
