In this morning’s promotional email, JetBlue dubbed 2014 “the year of the award flight.”
That’s on the strength of the previously announced double points promotion, for flights through March 3, and the newly announced Lucky 7 bonus:
It wouldn”t be a new year without treating members to a new bonus. Introducing the Lucky 7 Bonus, a brand-new perk for members who purchase and fly seven roundtrip JetBlue flights in a single calendar year. When you take your seventh flight of 2014, you”ll receive an additional 7,000 TrueBlue points.
The Lucky 7 bonus points do not count toward elite status.
Deal or No Deal
So, 1,000 bonus points per flight, but only after completing seven roundtrip flights.
To put that into perspective, TrueBlue members normally earn three points per dollar, plus an additional three points for flights booked on jetblue.com. So a $350 flight would earn 2,100 points. In that scenario, the 1,000-point bonus amounts to barely more than a 50 percent bonus. That’s a very modest bonus, that doesn’t earn elite points, with a pretty high threshold to earn it.
If JetBlue truly intends to make this the year of the award flight, they’ll have to step up their game.
