Although Wyndham’s new winter bonus is markedly more generous than last year’s 1,000-point bonus, it still falls on the half-hearted end of the spectrum.
Between October 15, 2013, and January 31, 2014, Wyndham Rewards members can earn 2,014 bonus points for the second and subsequent stays at Baymont Inn & Suites, Days Inn, Dream, Hawthorn Suites, Howard Johnson, Knights Inn, Microtel Inn & Suites, Night, Ramada, Super 8, Travelodge, Tryp, Wingate, and Wyndham hotels.
The bonus may be earned for up to five stays, the second through the sixth stays during the promotion period.
Registration is required.
Deal or No Deal
Except at Hawthorn Suites, Wyndham Rewards members normally earn 10 points per $1 spent. So a $100 single-night stay would net 1,000 points, and the 2,014 extra points would amount to earning triple points. For longer, more expensive stays, the bonus decreases in percentage terms.
In redemption terms, earning the maximum of five bonuses would net more than 10,000 bonus points, enough for a free night at a Category 3 hotel. But that’s after six stays, a pretty high hurdle for most travelers.
Unless you’re a committed Wyndham loyalist, there are more generous bonuses to be found among the current crop of hotel promotions.
