In January, American will begin phasing in its new Airbus A321T aircraft on flights between New York and both Los Angeles and San Francisco. (The “T” is for Transcon.) By next summer, the new planes will be flying 13 times daily on the New York-Los Angeles route, and five times a day on the New York-San Francisco route.
To promote the new service, American is offering up to 15,000 bonus miles for the Los Angeles flights. There’s no word yet as to whether there will be bonuses for the San Francisco flights as well.
Between January 7, 2014, and March 31, 2014, AAdvantage members can earn up to 15,000 bonus miles for roundtrip flights between New York and Los Angeles, as follows:
One-way trips earn half the above bonuses.

Deal or No Deal
The bonuses amount to around double miles for discounted coach, triple miles for full coach, and quadruple miles for premium-class tickets. Nice!
Less nice may be the flight experience on the new aircraft, especially in coach. The new single-aisle Airbus planes will replace the B767s currently in service on the routes, which feature twin aisles and a generally more spacious feeling throughout the cabin. With fully lie-flat seats in first and business class, the Airbus planes should be a perfectly pleasant experience for those in the front of the plane. But three-by-three seating in coach, in a narrow-body plane, on a lengthy transcon flight? Even with the latest in WiFi connectivity and inflight entertainment, the switch from B767s to the A321T is likely to be a comfort downgrade for coach flyers.
Bonus miles are only on offer for a limited time. There’s no end date for the discomfort.
