To promote the first phase of reciprocal code-sharing between the two airlines, American and US Airways are offering bonus miles on each other’s fights.
Between January 13 and March 2, members of American’s AAdvantage program will earn a 50 percent bonus for US Airways flights. And members of US Airways’ Dividend Miles program will earn a 50 percent bonus when flying on American. The bonus applies to all flights, not just code-shares.
Registration is required.
Deal or No Deal
Bear in mind that eventually, the AAdvantage and US Airways programs will be merged and miles from the two programs consolidated.
So although it may seem odd to earn more US Airways miles than American miles when flying American, and vice versa, the two programs’ miles will ultimately become a single currency.
As bonuses go, 50 percent is on the modest end of the spectrum. And as promotion periods go, this one is notably short. Still, the time required to register is a small price to pay for the extra miles.
