Alaska Offers Double Miles for Three New Routes

Alaska Offers Double Miles for Three New Routes

Later this year, Alaska Airlines will be launching daily service from its Seattle hub to three new destinations: Detroit, New Orleans, and Tampa.

Predictably, there are mileage bonuses on offer for the new flights. But mind the registration deadlines.

Offer Details

Start dates and bonuses for the three new routes are as follows:

Seattle-New Orleans

  • Service begins on June 12.
  • Double redeemable miles will be on offer through August 15.
  • Registration is required, and must be completed by April 15.

Seattle-Tampa

  • Service begins on June 20.
  • Double redeemable miles will be on offer through August 15.
  • Registration is required, and must be completed by April 15.

Seattle-Detroit

  • Service begins on September 4.
  • Double redeemable miles and double elite-qualifying miles will be on offer through October 31.
  • Registration is required, and must be completed by July 15.

Deal or No Deal

Double miles certainly should make Alaska a contender for the business of anyone flying on the new routes during the promotion period. And the double elite miles on the Detroit flights (where Alaska will be going head-to-head with Delta) make Alaska’s flights that much more appealing.

Ending registration two months before the flights begin is a decided negative. Most travelers won’t become aware of the new flights until the registration deadlines are passed, and thus won’t be eligible to earn the bonuses. That’s either bad marketing, or a cynical attempt by Alaska to enjoy the good press associated with the bonuses without the expense of actually awarding them.

If there’s even a remote possibility of your flying these routes during the promotion, register now. Otherwise, by the time you book, the bonuses may well be moot.
